Welcome to your March 2, 2017 IAP CoP Update
CHAIRPERSON’S CORNER: The ABC of Airports
We all experienced Queen Matilah International Airport (QMIA) during our AMPAP course work. Regardless if you are from HKG or MUC, airports are full of acronyms and abbreviations – lots of ABCs.
Recently, I was with a colleague with the Administration of Airports Ltd., at Macau International Airport (MIA) at a workshop in Montreal.
Here in my home airport of Miami, we also use MIA for Miami International Airport. Many of us easily recognize YUL as the home of ICAO and ACI International as well as Quebec’s largest city. Perhaps you work at the fastest growing airport in the world (% of growth 16.3%) PVG? Shanghai Pudong International Airport leads the world’s 10 fastest growing airports but that list also includes DEL at number 4 (% of growth 15.7) for Indira Gandhi International Airport.
At number 6 on the list is SEA (% of growth 12.9%) at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. So whether your airport code is CGK or SAT, perhaps there are one or more airports that share your airport initials? Maybe you are from fabulous Farnborough (FAB) or down under in general aviation airport FLY? Yes, there is Finley Airport in New South Wales, Australia, in case you fly to FLY.

INSTRUCTOR’S CORNER: AMPAP, develop the leaders of tomorrow
Jean Marc Trottier, instructor at the ATS course in Dakar last week had a few words about the programme at the welcome reception (video in French).
“One of the biggest challenge nowadays of the Aviation Industry is the airport takeover.
People like me who have 40+ years of experience know that there is a need to prepare the new generation of Airport managers. Unfortunately, everyone has been focusing on the daily activities so we forgot to prepare for the future. Companies and Organizations like ICAO and ACI have now several programs in place to develop and prepare the leaders of tomorrow.
AMPAP is part of this wave, it is the highest international accreditations that exists for airport managers; it became to Aviation what an MBA is to Administration.”
