Welcome to your November 23, 2016 IAP CoP Update
IAP CoP DISCUSSION PLATFORM IS MOVING TO LINKEDIN
The CoP team is moving the Discussion Forum away from the Moodle platform to make your Community of Practice discussions more accessible. No need to log into the platform anymore; simply join your IAP CoP private LinkedIn group to follow the latest news and discussions in your community, even on your mobile devices!
The new LinkedIn group discussion area will officially launch 30 November 2016, with the start of the discussions concerning the upcoming CoP Board of Directors Elections. In the interest of informing the membership about candidates’ qualifications and the election process, a discussion on the LinkedIn group will begin at 12:00 (noon) November 30, 2016 until 11:59 December 13, 2016 (all times EST). We hope you will participate in the discussion, which will provide an opportunity for you to interact with the candidates and to express your own views about the future direction of your IAP CoP.
The CoP team ask members to keep the discussions focused on the Elections but as soon as the elections results are announced, the group discussion will be used to share news from the community and start discussions with your peers. Who knows, the solution to one of your most pressing issues may be just a discussion away.
Beyond the LinkedIn Discussion Group
The CoP will move away from the Moodle platform, not only for the member discussions, but you will soon have access to a completely redesigned website to ensure easy access to your IAP benefits! Stay tuned!

THE INSTRUCTOR’s CORNER: IAP CoP – A GLOBAL INFLUENCE
Every organization, if it is to survive, must focus on aligning its business development and growth strategy with a diversified professional development and talent training strategy that covers all management levels of an organization. A key success strategy for airport executives has been to enrol in the Global ACI-ICAO Airport Management Professional Accreditation Programme (AMPAP). Not only has AMPAP been recognized as a best-in-class professional development programme, but it also offers various formal and informal, self-directed and collaborative, globally networked opportunities for continuing development, yielding high returns in talent development and a solid return on investment for participating airport executives and their employers.
The next step was to leverage the strength of its growing numbers of IAPs and ensure the ongoing promotion of the airport management profession as well as the associated body of knowledge on best practices by establishing the IAP Community of Practice (IAP CoP). As a result, IAP CoP participants are not only advancing their own knowledge and network, but they are creating opportunities to advance the practice and profession of airport management on a global level.
Many people use the term engagement to refer to the extent to which members of a group identify with and value outcomes, and participate in the organization. Its definition usually comprises a psychological component pertaining to a persons’ sense of belonging and acceptance of the organizations values and intended purpose. There is also a behavioural component pertaining to participation. Members who do not feel they belong, or reject the organization’s values, are often referred to as alienated or disaffected. As aviation professionals and IAP CoP members we can shape the organization’s values and direction by being involved in the process. The annual IAP CoP Meeting of the Members, and the election of the Board of Directors members is an important privilege of CoP membership. Don’t be actively disaffected, because you will miss an opportunity to make a positive contribution on our global profession.

CHAIR PERSON’s CORNER
You may already know the Global ACI-ICAO Airport Management Professional Accreditation Programme (AMPAP) is governed by a Steering Committee, co-chaired by the Secretary General of ICAO and the Director General of ACI. The function of this Committee is to establish Policy Direction for the Programme and to monitor its performance against goals set jointly by ICAO and ACI.
In addition to the co-chairpersons, the AMPAP committee members include the ICAO and ACI AMPAP Team Leaders, selected directors from both organizations, the Programme Administrator Executive and two AMPAP graduates, i.e. holders of the International Airport Professional (IAP) designation. The latter representatives are appointed by the IAP Community of Practice Board of Directors to represent the IAP Community on the Steering Committee. The Community representatives act in an advisory capacity with the view to provide input regarding the strategic orientation of the Programme as well as its continued quality and professional relevance. Our currently appointed representatives are Tonci Peovic (Brac Island Airport) and Rodolfo Echeverria (BC & MC).
Your participation with the Community of Practice and the CoP’s Board of Directors, presents engaged members not only with the opportunity to enhance the CoP’s future, but also to ensure that IAP’s voices are heard at the highest levels of civil aviation. I encourage you to actively participate and become involved.
Denise Martinez, IAP CoP Chair
