IAP CoP Board Engagement Letter

April 28, 2021/in Chairperson's update, IAP CoP Update /by Jason Poirier Lavoie

April 23, 2021

A message from Mike Nakornkhet, Chairperson of the IAP CoP Board

Dear IAPs,

I am writing to personally thank you for your continued participation in our community and invite you to share your valuable feedback with us. We have created the following survey to assess improvements to our online forum and iapcop.aero website that are important to you. We invite you to complete this survey by May 7th 2021: IAP CoP Online Presence Survey

Since our formation nearly eight years ago, we have set our sights to be the premier global network where International Airport Professionals (IAPs) contribute to the advancement of airport management as a profession. In essence, we are a community formed by IAPs for the benefit of IAPs. Over the years, your industry colleagues have organized two knowledge sharing labs and continue to interact with one another to share airport and professional information. I myself, have utilized the vast IAP network to see and learn about other airports. My favorite story was while traveling in the South Pacific, I reached out to a fellow IAP who was so kind to give me a tour of his airport, for which I will be forever grateful.

Our industry is going through arguably the most challenging year in its history. We have all been personally and professionally impacted by the global COVID-19 pandemic. But with challenges come opportunities, and I am positive that our industry will emerge stronger and more resilient than ever before. Late last year and early this year, a group of IAPs banded together to share information about how their respective airports are handling the pandemic, and shared insights on how airports can emerge from the crisis.

As you are aware, the IAP CoP recently elected new Board members in January of this year. We are a diverse and global group of professionals all driven by the same goal, to re-energize the CoP and deliver initiatives that foster better engagement. With that in mind we are proud to launch an awards program, including the title of IAP of the year – an outstanding accolade. With this new initiative IAPs can be nominated or self-nominate to receive recognition for their outstanding accomplishments and contributions to aviation. We are also planning to launch a pilot mentorship program, where IAPs can volunteer to participate as mentors to help guide fellow IAPs through expertise areas or general career development. Stay tuned for more information on our new initiatives.

In your investment in AMPAP, you clearly recognized the value of professional development in maintaining your competitive edge in the marketplace. By being actively engaged in the CoP, you can leverage that initial investment and reap the benefits of the CoP in terms of improvements that drive productivity, innovation and learning. I wish you all the best in your endeavors and thank you for being a leader for our profession.

Sincerely,

Mike Nakornkhet, IAP+
Chairperson

The ACI NA Conference and Exhibition will happen in Ft. Worth from September 17 to 20. We expect many IAPs to be present, will you be there? Paul Behnke, Knowledge and Industry Intelligence and AMPAP Instructor will be at the event to promote the programme. Make sure to come and say hi!

Dear IAPs and Associates,
I will be present at the ACI NA conference in Dallas in 2 weeks in order to promote AMPAP and meet with the IAPs. As we move into the second decade of the programme, this might be the biggest gathering of IAPs and Associates at a conference! We will not have formal activities planned but we would like to invite you to visit the AMPAP display both at the ACI NA booth and the SITA booth where I will promote the programme during exhibition hours.
Hope to see you in Texas!

About the Last ATS courses

May 23, 2017/in IAP CoP Update, Instructor's corner /by Jason Poirier Lavoie

Queen Matilah makes first ever appearance in Atlanta ATS

Participants/instructors astounded by her royal presence (in her crown!)
‘bears a striking resemblance to Susan Warner-Dooley’ says instructor

AMPAP has been globetrotting again over the past month with ATS courses in Atlanta and Abu Dhabi. I had the pleasure of being involved in both sessions with co-instructors Tonci Peovic and Louis Haeck in Atlanta and Michael Rodyniuk and Wasim Zaidi in Abu Dhabi. Both courses were marked by superb hospitality from ATL and ADAC and a high level of energy in the classroom.

For the first time in the 10 years since AMPAP’s launch, “Queen Matilah” showed up to attend the class in Atlanta and listen to the proposals for the future international airport bearing her name in Putnam. The class was stunned when she entered the room wearing her ‘travel crown’, a small golden tiara. She posed a number of challenging questions to the teams. While we invited her to Abu Dhabi, hoping that she had begun a trend of personal involvement, she was unable to attend due to a long-standing commitment to visit ICAO HQ and ACI World in Montreal.

Queen Matilah (3rd from right) mingles with some of her loyal subjects.

AMPAP Instructor
